Have you ever liked the show from the genre that you do not like or even despise for any reason? Why did this happen and did it create any problems in your enthusiasm with this? For example, this happens almost every time I like some CGDCT or All-Female title, since I always had significant problems with the audience of these genres. To such an extent that sometimes I even avoided reading a discussion or participating in it in order to continue to enjoy the show in a calm manner.

I guess I only hate purely Yaoi/Yuri anime. I dont even watch them so I cant say about liking them. Apart from that, I dont particularly hate any genre.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Not really? I guess the closest would be 'The Executioner And Her Way of Life' as it's a show I enjoyed quite a bit despite the fact that it's an isekai and I usually tend not to go for those but generally speaking a shows synopsis and general premise holds more weight on my decision to watch it and my chances of enjoying it, than it's genre.

And it didn't really cause any trouble with my enthusiasm as I was mainly just happy to find a show I enjoyed. The most trouble it caused was that I watched it a few years after it came out, so there wasn't really much discussion happening surrounding the series anymore but that's about it.

I don’t really have any strong negative feelings towards any genre, but if I had to pick one that I have the hardest time connecting with, it would probably be mecha. Still, there have been plenty of mecha anime I’ve enjoyed. Gurren Lagann, 86, Code Geass, Suisei no Gargantia, and Bang Brave Bravern are a few off the top of my head. Why these? I have no idea, since they don’t really have anything in common with each other.

It never creates problems. If anything, it’s the opposite; it’s a pleasant surprise when I find a mecha anime that I can really enjoy, and it makes me more likely to check out others when they come along.

Probably the most prominent example of "I hate this premise but the show turned out decent" for me is Problem Children Are Coming from Another World, Aren't They?, where I still think the premise of settling all disputes through fundamentally unrelated and unnecessarily complicated games is stupid and the premise of the main character being an asshole is also stupid, but the show itself played out pretty decently. Though it probably helped that the main characters weren't all that assholish, and the opening theme is really cool.

A related example is Tokyo Xanadu, the game (specifically Tokyo Xanadu eX+), which I started as a bit of a throwaway distraction because I'm not really a fan of yet another story about Japanese schoolkids. I still am not really a fan of that, but the game plays out quite well, for story, gameplay, music, characters, setting, etc. -- I'm actually rather fond of it now, and it's definitely a worthy Falcom title.

Of course

I think there's gems to find even in the genres we're least into

Never been particularly into romance, especially shoujo romance, but i'm really enjoying fruits Basket for the other story elements and the characters, same with Orange, and i also quite enjoy some of the classic shoujo romances from the 70s/80s

I've yet to find a CGDCT show or a josei that doesn't have a cute animal MC i like though

I hate BL because it's full of stuff I dislike, specially all the harassment and rapey stuff but I liked Uraboku since Yuki x Luka was pretty sweet and it's about the only anime that did the reincarnation romance right.

Euphonium and Haiikyu are two animes that made interested in the concept their based on (concert band) and (volleyball) that i never cared about, to the point i want to see it IRL. Anime has the power to do it, it's fair to say, if it wasn't for those two, i wouldn't watch it IRL.

Gurren Lagann, and Witch of Mercury. Never really cared for Mecha anime but those 2 hit the right spot. Though the 2nd one I have a huge biased towards Yuri stuff.
Chihiyafuru and Medalist so far for sport anime.

Sure I am not big on Battle Shonen but love Demon Slayer a lot, and it is very typical of Battle Shonens and it's hugely enjoyable.
Even a lot of the shonen tropes make me smile, I dunno for some reason

I dislike isekai but have isekai that I like, but it's a really huge genre now, so disliking the genre but liking maybe <10 isekai anime isn't much.

Not big into slice of life. I tend to prefer something more plot significant in anime I watch otherwise it can be a bit boring for me. Howvere I've seen a few that I have watched to the end. It's either Elegant Yokai Apartment Life or My New Boss Is Goofy for me that I enjoyed most.

CGDCT is probably my least liked genre as it combines sol style stories and female dominated cast two things that don't really interest me. I've seen one that I completed and enjoyed enough before my tastes developed and that's Azumanga Daoih

Not much of a romance fan either. Unless it's BL. (again don't vibe with a lot of female characters in anime) but I have seen more then the other two. Ouran High School Host Club I'm surprised I liked. Actually add that in reverse harem too.

oh and Harem. Not for me. I saw Tenchi Muyo but not something I really want to go back into. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it.

I definitely DON'T like female idol. But One Piece Film Red counts as one. But then again I love One Piece and it had an actual plot.

Forgot add Magical Girl. Not for me. Sailor Moon is alright hut it's Cute High Earth Defence Club for me. And the magical girls are magical boys lol.

@Sheol01 I really can't understand it, evangelion in many ways is textbook mecha, it's just that Anno is a great writer who made it unique yet people claim it's a deconstruction

@Guilmon1 Because it easier for them seeing shinji mopping around, forgetting that each show has different premise. Ideon shown you that is neither fight or die for the character they don't have the luxury to mope around like shinji. Same for Grendizer Duke Fleed saw his planet got destroyed by Vegan that why he vows to protect his new home. Plus Grendizer is the only defense against Vegan is neither fight or suffer the same fate as Planet Fleed. Also not everyone has a death wish like shinji.

@SPTLayzner but even other mecha shows before have similar moments, Amuro refuses to pilot a lot of times
There are few mecha pilots that I've seen that are excited and ready to pilot a mech, piloting as a responsibility you have to take exists even since mazinger arguably and Anno knows it, evangelion works because it understands and plays into the genre while being Anno's therapy art, not for some deconstructive bs, it's not out of spite and want to be intellectual like many edgelords claim, it's out of love and appreciation for the genre, someone who hates mecha or whatever people believe can't write a character like Rei, someone who wants to deconstruct won't write half of th show like Anno did

I don't like Romance anime with a Harem theme. I think that romantic love should be for only one person, but I like "Hyakkano". At first, I didn't even have the idea to watch it, but I was just bored and had nothing to do, so I watched it and found it fun. The protagonist is so cool, a gentleman, and tries his best for his lovers, and maybe because it's a Comedy with a Parody theme too, I liked it easily.

@Zarutaku Same here. It's a real gem.

I'm not a fan of romance but Dangers in my Heart is a stand-out anime for me.

Harem is still pretty lacking in good examples IMO. The problem is that I don't like being pandered to and harem stories basically exist to pander to male viewers.

I think the truth is, however, that 90% of everything is crap and the other 10% is worthwhile regardless of genre. It's just that not everyone agrees on which 10%. By which I mean that the rest of you refuse to agree with ME!

Code Geass is not mecha anime in true sense, it's a power fantasy for teens that happen to have mechas in it so the people who liked it could pretend to like mechas.
